Are Psychedelics Anti-Inflammatory?

While it has been established that psychedelics promote healing of depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, and addiction, the question of how they do it remains a mystery. One theory researchers have proposed is that psychedelics work by reducing inflammation, this is because inflammation has been implicated as one cause of depression. For centuries, indigenous peoples have been using psychedelics as anti-inflammatory medicine, however, the researchers are just now beginning to unlock this potential. In one study, the researchers showed that activation of 5-HT2A receptors by psychedelics blocked TNF-a induced inflammation in cell and animal models of inflammation. More studies into this novel anti-inflammatory pathway needs to be done to firmly establish these psychedelics as anti-inflammatory agents.
